What Do Bed Bugs Look Like

Knowing what bed bugs look like is the first step to remove bed bugs. Due to their small size bed bugs can easily go unrecognized and take on many shapes and sizes depending on what stage of life they’re in. Bed bugs also look different after a feeding.
Bed bugs look like a disk with a clear yellowish color. After drinking the blood of their victims, bed bugs blow up like a football and turn a reddish-brown color as they digest their meal. This gives bed bugs the color and shape that you typically see in pictures of them.
Another sign of what a bed bug infestation looks like is black spots where they frequent. Black spots can appear on the surface of your mattress, sheets, and in the seams of the mattress. These black spots are a bed bugs fecal matter and can appear in groups or look like a tar substance in larger infestations.
What Bed Bug Eggs Look Like
Bed bug eggs look like egg shaped clear specks of dust. After about five days the eggs will form two red dots which will become the eyes of the bed bug. As the eggs mature, they form into a disc shape keeping their clear yellowish color. At this stage, they are baby bed bugs called nymphs.
What Do Baby Bed Bugs Look Like

Baby bed bugs look like adults but they’re much smaller and have a yellowish clear color to them. They go through five stages of growth on their way to adult hood and range from 1.5mm – 4.5mm in size.
Baby bed bugs will shed their skin once in each stage of growth. The skin looks like a shell in the form of a bed bug and can be found wherever there’s a bed bug infestation. Generally, you’ll find many shells in mattress seams, behind base boards and along walls as this is where beg bugs spend much of their time.
What Do Adult Bed Bugs Look Like
Adult bed bugs are still small at three sixteenths to quarter inch long. They like to hide during the day, in mattress seams, behind bed boards, and even in electrical outlets. Because of their small size and ability to hide, they can be difficult to spot. In adulthood, due to many feedings, bed bugs have a reddish-brown color and can have a disc or football shape.
What Do Bed Bug Bites Look Like

Bed bug bites look like mosquito bites. They form a red bump and itch like a mosquito bite. Unlike mosquito bites, which occur in random locations on the body, bed bugs tend to bite in a straight line.
Bed bug bites occur at night while you’re sleeping and in areas of skin that are exposed while you sleep. Your arms, stomach, feet, and neck are common areas where you might find bed bug bites.
